Essay / Bluest Eye - 2040
=Amidst today's busy world, each person evolves with time and different contexts. Different thoughts, cultures, backgrounds and religious views shape everyone's mind. An individual's thinking is greatly reflected in his education and lifestyle. Guidance and mentoring can significantly improve a person's life, directly or indirectly. In the 1900s, individuals of different races and skin colors had different experiences during their lives. Some were luckier while others suffered; do your best to change it or experience it in the least painful way possible. But obviously it was African Americans who went through this terrible time and were treated based on the color of their skin. Racism was very apparent throughout the book “The Bluest Eye”. It is based on the explanation of racism and struggles through the literary works of Toni Morrison. In this article I will critically analyze and bring parallels with another text by Sigmund Freud “Psychoanalysis” and relate them to different themes of the novel which focuses on race, gender, sexuality, abuse , socio-economic status and history of how this reflects character. Racism is a social construct; it can be learned and internalized. In Toni Morrison's book, with the help of multiple narratives, we find other aspects of racism such as inter- and intra-racial racism, discrimination of whites against blacks, fairer blacks against black blacks and black men against black women. The book “The Bluest Eye” provides a detailed description of how white beauty standards destroy the lives of black girls and women. The message that white is superior is everywhere, such as the white doll given to Claudia, identity...... middle of paper ...... and goals. Although each story has its own meaning explaining different aspects of life, Claudia's story particularly stands out for its affirmative power. First, she tells Pecola's story and although she questions its accuracy and meaning, to some extent her attention and care redeems the ugliness of Pecola's life. The novel “The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison and the text “Psychoanalysis” by Sigmund Freud have a lot of correlation. Freud's text is used to illustrate the different aspects of the ego, id and superego. It serves to show the relationship that the characters in the book have with the different concepts mentioned by Freud. The conscious and the unconscious play a big role in Toni Morrison's novel. I think the use of Freud's text breaks down the novel, gives denotative meaning and sheds light on the meaning of the book..
