The narrator announces that a “horrible and sinister raven wandering from the night shore” has entered his room as an intruder (Baym 639). The Night Shore is Pluto's underworld in Greek mythology. In essence, the narrator states that the bird seems to come from hell. Raven enters like a comfortable intruder, without hesitation or hesitation in her mission to Pallas's bust. Holding the narrator captive by his constant and single word "never again", the bird brings the man trouble and self-torture. Just as hell brings inevitable torment, so does this bird.
