Essay / King Akenaten: The Life and Life of King Tutankhamun
In ancient Egypt, stories of gods and goddesses were told to every young person willing to listen. The stories ranged from great leaders doing heroic things to the creation of this world. In those days, rulers built majestic tombs for the afterlife, built pyramids, or kept control of the country! A famous pharaoh was King Tutankhamun who reigned only a few years after reaching adulthood. His life was tragic but majestic and his life will forever be remembered in history as one of the most righteous rulers of Egypt. King Tut was born around 1341 BCE. He received the name Tutankhaten which means “the living image of Aten”. Aten was the god of all gods. During his early childhood years, the young pharaoh lived with the political problems of the former ruler Akenhaton (possibly Tut's father) who was labeled a "heretic king" who changed the ideas of religion and changed ancient Egypt and pushed it into political movements. Akenaton died and Tut, aged nine, took over around 1332 BC. Since King Tut was so young, "his early years of rule were probably controlled by an elder known as Ay" (Biography.com). Ay held the title of Vizier. Ay was also accompanied by Horemheb, who was the highest military leader at that time in Egypt. Horemheb and Ay decreed to stop the worship of Aten. Tutankhaten later changed his name to that of King Tutankhamun, which means "the living image of Amun". King Tut was then married to Ankhesenamun who was his half-sister. Tutankhamun then asked the royal court to return to Thebes, where the court had previously been located. To Thebes he sent craftsmen to restore the name of the old god Amun who had been violated by Akhenaten's servants. Many statues were being created... middle of paper... all inside each other. The final coffin was sealed with gold and jewels embedded inside. After lifting the lid, they found the dead mummy of King Tutankhamun, hidden from the living for over 3,000 years! They found jewelry all around Tut. Howard and his partner excavated the tomb for seventeen years and sent all the artifacts to the capital, currently Cairo, Egypt. News of the discovery of the young pharaoh's tomb quickly spread around the world and received a lot of publicity! After all, Tutankhamun's life did not end in tragedy. He was a young pharaoh who ruled the golden age of ancient Egypt. The era of revolution and prosperity that will forever change the course of history as we know it. He will go down in history as one of the most memorable pharaohs of all time and his life was fascinating at his age..
