Essay / Amy Bishop: The Deadly Professor - 1661
Amy Bishop was born on February 4, 1968 (Dunlop, 2010), to Sam Bishop and Judy Bishop. They lived in Iowa City where her father was working on his art studies at the University of Iowa. Bishop was a smart, empathetic girl who loved playing with her toys. The family eventually moved to Massachusetts, where his father got a job as a teacher. They settled in Braintree in 1968 and Seth was born later that year (Keefe, 2013). Amy had asthma and was often sent to the emergency room, which led to her passion for science. Bishop was very close to his brother, saying he saved his life after he nearly fell off a cliff. Both siblings chose to attend their father's college when it was time to enter college. Additionally, on December 6, 1986, Amy and her father had an argument. Amy, angry with her father, went to his room where he keeps his gun, which he bought after he was robbed. Amy told her mother there was a shell in the gun and she didn't do it... middle of paper ... Broussard, can seek the death penalty. Bishop is charged with “one count of capital murder and three counts of attempted murder.” If convicted, she could face life in prison without parole or death. (Hawkins, 2010). In conclusion, Amy Bishop, also known as The Deadly Professor, started a shooting at a department faculty meeting. No one knows for sure what led Bishop to this chain of events, but her background states that she had previous experience with murder, assault and battery and was suspected of having created a pipe bomb. Her attorney, however, claims that Bishop simply couldn't handle being denied tenure and that it may have provoked her because of all the stress that comes from being the breadwinner. On September 24, 2012, Bishop was charged with capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole (Reeves, 2012).
