The temperate forest biome is known for its deciduous trees and seasons. It is a mixture of deciduous and coniferous trees. This biome experiences all four seasons. In summer, animals have more food and become more lively. Temperate forests have hot summers, cold winters, and year-round precipitation. Temperate forests grow in the polar regions of the northern and southern hemispheres. Most temperate forests are located in the eastern United States, Canada, Europe, China, Japan, and parts of Russia. Deciduous forests are divided into five zones. The first zone is the tree layer zone. This is the tallest area and the trees are between 60 and 100 feet tall. The second zone is the zone of small trees and saplings. Newer, shorter trees make up this area. The shrub zone is the third zone. Shrubs include mountain laurel, blueberries and many others. The fourth zone is the herb zone and contains short herbaceous plants, such as ferns. The Soil zone is the last zone where plants grow on the ground. Each forest receives a different amount of precipitation in the form of rain and snow. Most forests receive their precipitation in winter and spring. Annual precipitation in temperate forests ranges from 30 to 60 per year. The average annual temperature in a deciduous forest is 50° F. Most temperate forests have high biodiversity. Indeed, the biome has a very high density of plant life. Some of the commonly found plant species include those of deciduous trees, ferns, birches, beeches and moss beds. Like other biomes, scientists expect the biodiversity of temperate forests to decline due to deforestation and human activity. The producers of a temperate forest food pyramid are made up of...... middle of paper ...... living organisms where one benefits and the other is neither harmed nor helped in any significant way. An example of this in the temperate forest is the relationship between a squirrel and a tree, as the tree is not harmed and the squirrel has protection from predators and shelter. Temperate forests are essential to humans because they provide very useful resources in our daily lives. Acid rain is the main problem in this biome, caused by us humans. Due to pollution caused by our vehicles which damages the leaves of trees, acid rain causes them to produce fewer seeds. However, there are many things you can do to help sustain life in the temperate forest biome. First of all, you can recycle. You will reduce the need to cut down more trees. If we want to continue to enjoy these beautiful temperate forests, our biome must be protected with the greatest care..
