    Steven Spielberg is one of Hollywood's most famous and accomplished directors. He is best known for films such as Saving Private Ryan, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial and Jurassic Park. His film Schindler's List earned him two Golden Globes for Best Director and Best Picture. He is also known for protecting human rights. Spielberg dropped out of the National Advisory Council of the Boy Scouts of America because the group disapproved of homosexuals. Steven Spielberg was born on December 18, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio and spent most of his childhood in Haddon Township, New Jersey. When he was a baby, Steven's family said he was different or unusual. When he was eight years old, Steven saw Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and he became terrified by everything he saw (Rubin 11). He tried to get rid of his fear by scaring his younger sisters. He tortured them by telling them horrible stories and attacking them. At the age of ten, Steven and his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona because of his father's job. Spielberg considers Arizona his home because, according to Steven, ““For a child, home is the place where you have your first kiss; This is where you do your worst stuff and get your best grades." Arnold took Steven to see a meteor shower which later inspired him to create one of his first films, Firelight. Steven's father, Arnold, filmed family trips and Steven criticized his father's home films (Rubin 15). Arnold then gave him the Brownie 8mm camera to film with. He filmed his crashing wagons and a family camping trip that gave his sister Leah her first taste of the “Spielbergian touch.” Steven even earned his twenty-first merit badge when he made a short film about a gunfight and was promoted to the rank of Eagle Scout. After the couple separated in 1989, Irving acquired $100 million from the divorce settlement and shared custody of their son; Max Samuel Spielberg (“Wikipedia”). He then married Kate Capshaw in 1991 and adopted two children with her. Spielberg is a protector of human rights and devoted to charity. “In 1991, Steven Spielberg co-founded Starbright with Randy Aduana; a foundation dedicated to improving the lives of sick children” (“Wikipedia”). Also in 2008, Steven donated $100,000 to the "No to Proposition 8" campaign ("Wikipedia"). Overall, Steven Spielberg is one of the most popular and successful directors in Hollywood. He has directed many films such as ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Indiana Jones: The Temple of Doom. He is dedicated to charity and is a protector of human rights.
