Essay / The power of kindness in a very old man with a huge...
The way the story describes the elderly man clearly gives the reader an idea of his well-being. “He was lying in the corner, drying his wings in the sun among the fruit and breakfast scraps that the early risers had thrown at him.” (Mark 2) This quote shows that they didn't bother to feed him properly, let alone care if that was enough to get him back to good health and condition. “He had an unbearable smell of the outdoors, the backs of his wings were strewn with parasites and his main feathers were battered by the earthly winds, and nothing about him lived up to the proud dignity of the angels.” (Mark 2) He didn't fit any of the people's expectations of an angel. Angels are believed to be holy, beautiful and young and can perform miracles. Although he has not achieved any of their ideas about the angel, they all still hope for a miracle but have done nothing to try to win.
