Morals and values are something that every individual can respect in life. Professional organizations are just as similar to these, particularly those in the human services sector. In addition to these moral values, also called professional ethics, there are codes of conduct. Codes of conduct are rules and regulations put in place to help avoid conflict and adversity within professional environments. These rules and regulations are also put in place to help maintain the safety and well-being of professionals and clients. However, although there are several fields within the human services field, this allows for many professional associations to be available within our society. Since I am someone who is passionate about helping others in their times of adversity and advocating for diversity and equality, the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics is one I would adhere to in the professional environment mentioned. The American Counseling Association (ACA) is the world's largest professional association founded in 1952. The ACA focuses on the growth and improvement of the counseling profession, with headquarters located in Alexandria, Virginia. . However, their code of ethics did not come into existence until 1963; eleven years after their existence. Since then, their code of ethics has been revised twice due to changes in our society and other social justice issues. Its latest revised version took effect on July 1, 2005 with the approval of the ACA Board of Directors. Although its approval was granted by the Board of Directors, it was the ACA Code of Ethics Review Task Force that was responsible for revising its code of ethics. Yet its current code of ethics... middle of paper ...... policies and procedures help employees in times of conflict, but they will also help establish standards within the professional environment in this which concerns safety and well-being. or customers and professionals as well. Along with ongoing changes within society, these codes of ethics and conduct should be updated to adhere to these changes; but that doesn't say they have to be changed every year.
