Essay / Beneficial Use of Power Point to Tell a Story - 1205
Jennifer Egan's “Great Rock and Roll Pauses” has a very interesting story format. Unlike traditional stories written in essay form, they use PowerPoint and different types of slides to represent what the character is trying to convey. This is an analysis of young Alison Blake's PowerPoint diary about her family and her communication difficulties. What were the highlights of using the PowerPoint system, the details of the different slide graphics and how family communication is viewed differently due to the PowerPoint format? We start by analyzing the benefits of PowerPoint slides. The purpose of a PowerPoint slide is to speed up the absorption of information by creating a presentation that is clean, easy to read, and very linear. The use of the power point system allows a better understanding of the conversation; you are able to easily differentiate between two speakers, you can easily understand who is speaking and in what order they spoke. Most conversations held while reading are linear, starting with Speaker A, and moving back and forth between Speakers A and B as they argue or converse. You no longer wonder who is speaking and when. There's a great example of this on page 253, where Sasha pesters Alison into writing journals rather than making slides. As a reader, you can easily navigate the argument and understand who is speaking and what the argument is about. Conversations aren't the only benefit of a PowerPoint story; transitions are another confusing and often difficult writing factor. Transitions with a PowerPoint story are easy; they can be as simple as a new slide. There is no longer any need to use terms like "the next day" or transitiona...... middle of paper ......s for linear arguments and simple, distinct transitions like when Sasha and Alison argue over write or create slides. for a newspaper. Additionally, a reader can understand sublocation tones or slight allusions to a speaker's tone using specific slides such as scale or situation with the wall divider slide. And finally, the use of a PowerPoint presentation allows the reader to fully understand how poorly the family communicated with each other. Every member of the family argues at one time or another, especially Lincoln and his father. Unlike traditional stories written in essay form, Jennifer Egan's "Great Rock and Roll Pauses" uses the PowerPoint method and different types of slides to represent what the character is trying to convey. Create an incredibly interesting, easy-to-read, accessible and clear story.
