Essay / Shared Themes in A Clockwork Orange and Never Let Me Go
A Clockwork Orange and Never Let Me go are both set in a dystopian future. They both deal with a young protagonist trying to accept his fate in their respective societies. However. They are very different people, Alex Delarge is very impulsive and quick to anger, Kathy H. is a very empathetic and mild-mannered person. But they can still both be considered “anti-heroes”, they have that in common. In both novels, they explore in depth themes related to government power, freedom of choice, the complexity of what makes a person "human", and morality. Anthony Burgess's life experiences form the basis of the novel. Anthony claims that the most traumatic scene in the novel, when F. Alexander's wife was raped and died as a result, is said to have been inspired by the event during London's wartime blackout of 1944 . During the power outage, its w...... middle of paper ......approx. In the process of government action, the question of humanity arises. However, they took different approaches to what makes an individual a human person.
