Essay / The Commandments of Society - 767
Have you ever wondered why we have to say “bless you” when someone sneezes? Why is it rude not to hold the door for someone following right behind you? We do these and many other small actions without even thinking about why we are doing such things. For a society to succeed, it needs three things: an economy, a religion and, above all, a set of rules to follow. These rules, or commanders, are what shape our society into a strong and stable civilization. Without such commandments, the world of men would be unjust, unhealthy and inhumane at present. The first and probably most important of these unwritten commandments is the Golden Rule. Depending on societies and cultures, the Golden Rule has a different meaning. However, the most internationally recognized golden rule states: “Treat others as you would like to be treated.” This rule is emphasized a lot throughout the adolescent's academic education. The reason why it is important for everyone to know this rule is because it is based on the principles of honesty, kindness and sharing. Those who are not taught the Golden Rule end up becoming rude and superficial adults. The second commandment builds on the Golden Rule and the principles it teaches and much more. You must always give up their seats to the elderly and the disabled. The reason this rule should be made is because I have personally seen elderly and disabled people struggle on the city bus to find a seat all the way to the back. This problem could easily be avoided if society followed the basic principle that elderly and disabled people are not able to perform their daily tasks easily. Society should be well behaved enough to offer help to those who are not capable of taking... middle of paper... human being. No one has the right to take the life of another unless extreme danger is caused to him. Everyone has the right to live their life and no one in society can make such decisions to take away the precious gift of life. It sounds like a nuisance, but people die every day for the wrong reasons! Society must learn that taking someone else's life is an act that should not be without consequences. As stated previously, these rules, or commanders, are what shape our society into a strong and stable civilization. Without any of them, our society would be in disarray. To live a good life, people need to put rules in place. Imagine if everyone in society tolerated these commandments, our civilization would be free of disease, conflict, unjust deaths and would be considered much more peaceful..
