Characteristics of HopeIn the morning, the sun rises, dispelling the cloud of darkness and bringing the radiance of hope among the people of the world. We all live day to day and are always hoping for something to happen or something to happen. Hope is the essence of good storytelling and is one of the most defining characteristics of literary fiction. In many literary works, hope plays an important role in representing the feelings and importance of a specific work. Publications such as “A Worn Path”, “Wild Geese” by Mary Oliver, “September 1, 1939” by WH Auden, “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day? by William Shakespeare and “To Build a Fire”: The theme hopes to describe the meaning of the story or poem. To demonstrate a short story “A Worn Path” and its theme, I first want to introduce the main character who is the old black women named Phoenix Jackson. She had no one except a grandson who was very sick and she had to go to town to bring him medicine. The journey she was taking was really very difficult. Throughout the story, Phoenix shows the reader how difficult her journey was and how much she loved her grandson for taking new steps forward without giving up. The author demonstrates: “So she left the tree and had to cross a barbed wire fence” (367). This news greatly shows the example of a good-hearted person who does not lose hope that his grandson will improve. Phoenix Jackson is an elderly character, but presented in such a wonderful way that while reading a story, the reader believes in her strength and hopes that she will reach the final destination. The quote “God looks at me all the time” (369) inspired me a lot where I understood that this woman believes in God who will help her through difficult times...... middle of paper .. .... the changes in the stream, the curves and turns and the wooden jams, and he always noted clearly where he placed his feet” (109). The reason why I chose this quote from the text is because I want to present the characteristics of this man and show that he was very intelligent and knew that he was going in the right direction. And Jack delineated a setting “There was neither sun nor trace of sun, although there was not a cloud in the sky” (106) which gave a visual image of a place where there was a unnamed man. This clearly illustrates the strong hope this man had when he was fighting against the cold and wishing to survive. Ultimately, hope has become a prominent theme in literary creation. I have listed plenty of evidence above from the works of famous poets and authors. In many literatures, hope plays an important role in representing feelings and the importance of a specific job..
