A book report on: The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho Author Biography - Paulo Coelho was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1947 and before his career as a successful author , he was a playwright, theater director, hippie and popular songwriter of some of Brazil's biggest pop artists. In 1986, he undertook a pilgrimage on this road to Saint-Jacques and it will be the center of the plot of the book The Pilgrimage, published in 1987. His second book was entitled The Alchemist and was published in 1988. This book is went to number one in 29 countries and Coelho is considered the most widely read contemporary writer. The Alchemist was one of the ten international bestsellers of 1998. His work has been published in more than 100 countries and is translated into 42 different languages. He has received many prestigious awards in many countries. He now lives in South America with his family. Main Characters - The Shepherd - He was the boy through whose eyes the story was told. He fully followed his personal legend and never gave up on his dream. He traveled the country and was able to see the treasure he had been so close to at the beginning of the novel. The King - He was the one who gave the shepherd the two stones that were supposed to help him whenever he had trouble deciding what to do. He forced the boy to give him ten percent of his herd, because you should never promise something you don't have. The English - This is the man the boy met on his trip to the pyramids. It was he who introduced the boy to the idea of ββββthe alchemist and the masterpiece. Before that, he had never known about the alchemist or the great things he could do in the world. The ...... middle of paper ...... to the main character to show the real difficulties he faced while pursuing his personal legend. If I had had the chance to talk to the boy in the book, I would have told him that he should have stayed at the crystal factory because he had a good deal and could have made a lot of money and bought the his. happiness and realized his personal legend in his own rite. One thing that reminded me of another book I read was Into Lake of the Woods, because the two main characters were trying to run away from what had been in their lives to find something better. I would recommend this book to anyone who is unsure of what their life means to them. This book really gives them insight into their lives and that someone cares about them and there is something they need to look forward to, like the crystal merchant..
