The path I took to earn my Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce, Management and Economics, with a concentration in Marketing, was different than what I expected when I started university. I started at Brooklyn College at 17 and frankly, I wasn't ready for it. I struggled to balance a busy class schedule and inconsistent study habits. I never felt completely comfortable there and after two years of poor results, I enrolled at Kingsborough Community College. I saw it as a new start and I seized the opportunity. I decided to major in business administration; I made the dean's list and saw my grades improve dramatically. After earning 74 total credits, I decided I was ready to return to a four-year university. I first considered returning to Brooklyn College, but at that time my grandmother had become ill. I applied to the College of Staten Island which was near her home and would allow me to help her with whatever she needed and go to school locally. This worked great for my first semester. I had a GPA of 3.47 and decided to major in business, with a concentration in marketing. At that time, I was working part-time while studying. But due to some circumstances, I was forced to get a full-time job on top of another part-time commitment. This made it very difficult for me to enroll in classes because most of the upper-level marketing classes I needed to graduate with were only offered during the day when I was now working. I enrolled in evening and weekend classes for the next two semesters, but my grades began to suffer. Last semester I tried to enroll at the College of Staten Island, I couldn't fit the classes I needed into my ever-growing job...... middle of paper... ...marketing to other businesses is a skill I am very interested in learning. Learning how to approach these situations will help broaden my understanding of marketing concepts and their application. I believe the courses I have selected will help me expand on the many marketing courses I have already taken. Receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Management and Economics, with a concentration in Marketing from Empire State College, is something I am very proud of. Along with this degree and gaining the knowledge gained from these courses, I am confident that I will be able to pursue my career in the field of marketing. I hope the courses I have selected meet the standards the college expects..
