    The first year of college for students is never easy. Aside from the new social life we've all acquired, we've all felt at some point that we weren't as prepared for college as we'd hoped, especially for our classes. English is one of the most important courses needed to succeed in the future. The English subject requires critical writing, reading and thinking skills. Fortunately, many colleges have created a freshman writing program to help students improve these skills. Although they have produced these programs, not all of them are as effective as they could be. Freshmen need a smooth and easy transition from high school writing to the new world of writing that they will use for the rest of their lives. Students should be required to write in a journal each day on a topic given by the teacher, on a single page. This would promote writing in general and encourage them to think. With these short compositions, it would be an easy way to get students back into the rhythm of writing, especially after the long summer vacation. In...
