Ethical principles are attitudes that a person has based on his moral code or under the influence of duty. They generally include the standards set by society or a certain position and practice and considered admirable and appropriate. Many different areas of the job industry have their own set of moral values and principles that they hold in high regard. Most codes of ethics are designed around honesty and the general well-being of people. Although most have a basic understanding of what is considered right and wrong, where is the line actually drawn? What is considered ethical and morally right? How much sacrifice does one have to make to be considered good by the standards of the public and a specific line of work? AlChE has a code of ethics that revolves around the well-being of people and the environment. They also have high expectations of personal morality, principles, and responsibility. AlChE has set standards for improving themselves and becoming better leaders in and out of their field who deliver honest work that will greatly benefit anyone to whom the product applies. NSPE has a code of ethics very similar to that of AlChE as well as most engineering companies. Most organizations understand that the products they produce will be used for or around the general public. This understanding requires that members of these organizations have great moral responsibility in the interaction they have with them. Between AlChE and NSPE, you can collectively say that every engineer should seek to be held to a high standard and strive to do their best. . It is particularly important within NSPE to maintain a fair working environment for employees and employers. A common theme within both organizations' code of ethics is an either-or statement. Although not directly stated in the materials provided, you can tell that any defined "rules" may result in underlying punishment and discredit to your reputation. The tone you feel is one of strict policy making that causes you to question ethical codes.
