  • Essay / Primary Colors by Joe Klein - 965

Primary Colors, by Joe Klein, is an entertaining, informative, and controversial novel. Filled with both humor and wit, this book offers a fictional story full of drama, in which Joe Klein purports to describe characters and events that resemble real-life political figures. Joe Klein is an American journalist and columnist. He is also a political columnist for TIME Magazine. When Klein published his book, Primary Colors, in 1996, he left the author anonymous and later published the book under his name. His book Primary Colors is said to be: “A brilliant, insightful look behind the scenes of modern American politics, Primary Colors is a funny, wise and dramatic story with characters and events that resemble familiar real-life figures. » (From the hardcover edition.) This book follows the presidential campaign of a governor of a small Southern state, Jack Stanton. The narrator of the book is a congressman, Henry Burton, who joined the presidential campaign. The book doesn't say exactly, but it can be inferred that the events are based on Bill Clinton's campaign in 1992. This book will definitely hold your attention and make you want to read more. Klein creates this book to be very entertaining. The book reflects and describes how things happen in a real campaign. He manages to capture the characters with great detail and thought. Klein writes: “He was a big boy, very pale on the streets of Harlem in the middle of summer. I'm short and not so dark, not very threatening to Caucasians; I don't strut. We shook hands. My inability to remember this particular moment more precisely is disappointing: the handshake is the threshold act, the beginning of politics. I've seen him do it two million times n...... middle of paper...... I also would have liked to maybe hear more of Henry's point of view, what was he thinking exactly from the “governor”? Overall, I would rate this book 4.7 stars out of 5. Both humorous and witty, I think Primary Colors is a fun read that will both provoke and entertain its readers. Works Cited Klein, Joe.
