Eyseneck attempted to define personality by dividing it into different dimensions. One dimension lies between introverted and extroverted personalities, while the second lies between stable and neurotic personalities. If you have the personality of an introvert, you are someone who does not actively experience high levels of excitement during sports. They naturally have high arousal levels and don't need extra excitement. This would be linked to the type of sport they would participate in, as performance would be highest when arousal levels are optimal. Marathons and archery are an example of this, as they provide an environment that does not involve high levels of arousal and allow the athlete to maintain reduced levels of arousal, resulting in optimal performance. This means that their performance levels would be high because they are neither under-excited nor over-excited. The other end of this dimension is the extroverted personality type. This is when a person is naturally under-excited and therefore gets bored more easily. This means they cannot perform tasks that require high levels of concentration and low levels of arousal. Extroverts play sports such as soccer and rugby that involve other participants and large numbers of crowds. Extroverts are drawn to these types of sports because the athlete is naturally under-excited and easily bored; Both football and rugby are sports that require high levels of excitement and arousal. By surrounding themselves with high levels of arousal, athletes are more likely to reach their optimal arousal level and will therefore perform better. Personality types are divided into different dimensions. The second dimension is between stable and neurotic personalities. Having a stable personality is when someone is easy-going and easy-going. An example of this could be when an opposing team behaves aggressively towards you, a stable personality type would be able to remain calm and keep arousal levels low. This means that their performance levels during sports will remain high because they do not let high levels of arousal impact their performance. Having a neurotic personality is when someone is agitated and excitable, with a tendency to become anxious and very excited. This can have a negative impact on your athletic performance, as it can make you overly excited and lower your performance levels. This personality type would respond aggressively to opposition. This could lead to excessive excitement and..
