  • Essay / Location Description: Logging Forest

Giant tree trunks lay sprawled on the forest floor like fallen soldiers, scattering a large blanket of fallen leaves across the forest floor. Flocks of birds fly over their now destroyed nests and homes; gone forever due to logging's destruction of this once magnificent forest. The once brisk breeze that flowed through the clearing no longer rustles the leaves of the once-tall trees. A huge mountain of once tall and mighty trees, much like a pile of corpses, left and forgotten, stands alone. It begins to rot, giving off an earthy, dying smell, like that of rotting fruit. An abandoned, rusted, neglected truck stands to the right of the woods, and the colors of the dying logs and rusty truck contrast perfectly with each other. Say no to plagiarism. The once undisturbed forest floor is now stirred by the sound and thunder of trees landing on the forest floor. The insects and small things living in the forest floor were loudly interrupted by the destruction outside. The tree trunks remain stuck to the ground, but are no longer part of the tree. The trunks are the only part of the trees still connected, one to the earth connected by deep roots, and the other to the earth covering the forest floor for miles. The land that was once a forest can be seen for miles around. The logged, unfettered forest is connected to several other forests, like suburbs connected to other suburbs. voluptuous, green, vigorous, intact and sprawling with life, and above all, healthy. The fate of these forests is still unknown to them. These forests are full of life and bring much joy and prosperity to those within them, just as the now-destroyed forest once did, but disappeared forever due to forest destruction. The roar of the felling machine can be heard for miles. The roaring sounds of the machine are the roar of a large clawed and toothed animal. The saw from the machine cutting down the condemned trees sends wood chips flying, like small planes, flying through the air, but their flight is interrupted. The tired but still determined workers who control the machines advance slowly, cutting down each tree in the forest one by one. Sweat drips from their dirty faces. Amidst the annihilation, flocks of birds fly over the dying forest, fleeing the forest to find a new home. Smack, bang, boom. The deafening, eerie sound of large trees falling to the ground fills the air and can be heard for miles. The deafening noise of roaring machinery and falling trees is enough to drive a man mad. Workers are protected from these noises by tight earmuffs. Trees are dragged and loaded onto trucks, to be transformed into materialistic objects used by humans. Perhaps still inhabiting the trees, displaced or deceased, but the thousands of animals that took up residence and inhabited the forest are now nowhere to be found. Just like people being deprived of their homes for not paying their rent, animals have had their homes taken away and are homeless. The workers continue their work until the sun sets over the forest, and work again at dawn, just like clockwork. The workers return home to their families, earning their living from the destruction of the forest. My description of a location in a logged forest uses a range of descriptive techniques to make the reader feel.
