CHAPTER 1INTRODUCTION1.0 INTRODUCTIONThis chapter provides the context for the study of the influence of training and development. This chapter also describes the training overview, problem statement, research questions, research objectives, significance of the study, and overview of the research framework.1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDYTraining is a process by which skills and attributes are developed, information is also provided, in order to help people employed in organizations become more effective and efficient in carrying out their task. Better job performance will bring maximum contribution to the organization, not only today but also in the future. The goal of training is for employees to gain knowledge, learn new skills and behaviors emphasized in training programs and apply them to their daily activities. The long-term planning used by most companies investing in developing new skills for their staff has enabled the company to deal with the uncertainty it may face in the future. When employees are recognized by the organization for their interests in the company by providing training programs, they will do their best to achieve the goals of the organization and demonstrate high performance at work. Training must go beyond just developing basic skills to enable businesses to gain a competitive advantage. Training is a major area of the human resource management function particularly relevant to the effective use of human resources. An independent variable is a variable that is expected to influence the dependent variable. This research uses training engagement, training content and delivery approach, and training evaluation as independent variables. The dependent variable is a criterion or variable that must be predicted or explained.
