Essay / The Life of J. Edgar Hoover: J. Edgar Hoover - 1540
Edgar Hoover has a very unique style or leadership. I consider him a transformational leader. A transformational leader exemplifies five characteristics, namely creativity, interactive, visionary, empowerment and passion. Transactional forms of leadership are seen in many transformational leaders in the form of recognizing the contributions of group members. Hoover is a transformational leader because he embodies an abundance of charisma. Charisma can be thought of as charm, but I like to think of it as passion combined with self-confidence. Edgar was a very driven man when it came to the security and well-being of the United States. Charisma is a trait that every leader must possess. Hackman & Johnson defines charisma as providing vision and a sense of mission; inspire; build trust and respect. As director of the FBI, it was crucial that Edgar got his team on board with his ideas, otherwise citizens would continue to be in danger. Hoover was a creative genius. He developed a system to search for books throughout the library based on subject and author. This process cut the time spent searching for books in half. It used the same framework to develop its fingerprint database. Although implementing this database would take a long time, his forward-thinking made it possible to take over.
