Background of the studyMotivation is a power of our self to achieve something. It could be a school score, work score, losing weight, wanting a reward or anything. In fact, motivation comes from the Latin word “movere”. The motive is a specific need or desire that arouses the organism and directs its behavior towards a goal. All patterns are triggered by some sort of stimulus: a physical state, such as low blood sugar or dehydration; a signal in the environment, such as a “For Sale” sign; or feelings, such as loneliness, guilt or anger. When a stimulus induces goal-directed behavior, we say that it motivated the person. It has two types of motivation: intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation refers to the motivation that comes from within an individual, for example when you want to pass an exam, you will study hard and smart to get it. It's called a self-booster in yourself. Another example, when you want something, you try to achieve it until your dream comes true. However, intrinsic motivation is not related to extrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation refers to motivation that comes from outside of an individual. For example, extrinsic rewards such as interpersonal rewards, salaries, promotions, and benefits. Another example is that when you are not interested in the subject you are studying, you will feel boring and finally the risk of failure is high. However, as a graduate student, motivation is a power that can change someone from nothing to something. For example, from a lazy student to a diligent student. As part of my research, I study the influence of motivation on the academic performance of students at Kolej Poly-Tech Mara, Kuala Lumpur. In my own word, student is a person who attends classes......middle of copy......questionnaire/schedules etc.Interviews/posting questionnaires etc.Writing completed questionnaires, grouping and coding of data, entering data into a computerDesign and testing of a computer programRaw tabulations/preliminary analysis of qualitative dataData analysisReporting the results.Presentation of the final research product(s)Conclusion. From my research, what I can conclude is that all students need the motivation to succeed in their studies, but they do not know how to get and manage the motivation. As a student, motivation is very important to guide the student to become a disciplined people. In the world of studies, students face many challenges from their friends, family and also from themselves. So the solution in this thesis is that when students are highly motivated, they can pass their exam and finally their academic performance will increase..
