Bullying is aggressive, unwanted behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived imbalance of power (bullying definition). Bullying happens because most bullies have difficult lives at home and pick on other kids at school. People are bullied for many different reasons, including sexuality, weight, appearance, skin color, religion and disability. Bullying is a very serious and common problem in schools today. About 77% of students are bullied in some way. Bullying causes mental, physical, and emotional harm to many students across America. In many schools in the United States, studies have been done to get more information about bullying directly from students. More than 50% of victims and bystanders do not report the bully. Most bullies victimize students of the same age or class. Only about 30% of victims say the bully is older. In a survey of 7th and 11th grade students, 48% said they had been bullied in some way. Only 10 to 20 percent of uninvolved students provide real help when another student is a victim. It can be directly proven that approximately 30% of all child suicides are related to bullying (Meyer, Elizabeth). There are different ways to be bullied inside and outside of school. There are three main types of harassment. One of these three elements is physical intimidation. Physical intimidation is rarely the first form of intimidation a target will experience. In cases of physical harassment, the main weapon used against the victim is their body. Physical bullying is more likely to occur in men, although women can also be the perpetrators or victims of physical bullying (physical bullying). Many bullies walk the fine line between physical intimidation and physical assault. Often the bullying starts in the middle of a piece of paper......explain to them that they will not take away their children's computers or cell phones if they confide in them about a problem they are having ( Preventing cyberbullying). Parents need to recognize the warning signs their child will show if they are involved in bullying. They might be bullied, bully others, or witness bullying. Adults should use tips and tools to talk to their child about bullying. By opening lines of communication before a child is involved in bullying, it is easier for them to tell them when something is happening. It is also important to work with a school to help prevent bullying before it happens. Although there are many types of harassment, they all have the same effects on people and they can all be resolved using many of the same techniques. Bullying is a huge problem in schools today and can cause lasting damage to many people..
