  • Essay / Profile Group Reflection - 643

Reflection PaperTo reflect on the action of my experience of being in an agency profile group, I will discuss my personal learning in the context of the 'cycle of experiential learning” by Kolb (1998). The 4 stages of the Kolb cycle are:1. Experiment-What happened and what I observed.2. Reflection-How I feel about what happened.3. Conceptualization-What I think about what happened.4. Active experimentation – What I would do differently and what I would do the same way. My overall experience within the group was very positive. I learned how to manage my time correctly in order to meet deadlines and also that I have a voice to use it! Looking back on the group I was with, I would be very happy to work with any of them on another project. I think the project went very well. We gathered the relevant information and put the project together in the time allotted to us. If I had to do this project again, I think the only thing I would change is that I would have liked to express my opinion a little more because I sometimes feel a little too shy. Stages of group development: My agency profile report was part of the Irish Wheelchair Association. According to the theory of Tuckman and Jensen (1977), while working in my group for this report, we went through the different stages that develop there. These stages are 1) Training 2) Storming 3) Standardization 4) Execution and 5) Adjournment. Not all groups go through all five stages because it all depends on the characteristics of the people within the group. Training begins when the group is formed and the initial conversation begins. It involves gathering information about the group such as people's attitudes, motivations, personalities and hoping to get positive responses. Some groups do not progress beyond this stage...... middle of article...... the different types of roles are: President Resource Investigator Team Worker Shaper Business Worker/Implementer work Factory Finisher Factory Supervisor/Evaluator Specialist Belbin (1981) When it came to getting the job done, we all had a deadline to meet. These deadlines were generally met because we set realistic deadlines. There was an obvious chair in the group because we were asking him for confirmation to make sure what we had done was correct. The “plant” within the group was helpful. They helped by piecing together the final draft and making sure it was correct. Conflict Resolution: If there was a conflict within the group, it was resolved quickly. If anyone had a problem, he explained it and the subject was discussed among the group members. We would then come to an agreement and the problem would be resolved.
