  • Essay / Analysis by Susan G Komen For The Cure - 1161

Two such organizations were “Mush for a Cure” and “Kites for a Cure”. Mush for a Cure was a sled dog drive to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. After raising about $30,000 for breast cancer, they received a cease and desist letter from Susan G Komen. However, after receiving bad publicity, the lawsuit was abandoned and "Mush for a Cure" is now trademarked by its organizer. Kites for a Cure was an event organized by the group Uniting Against Lung Cancer. They were also asked to refrain from using the color pink in connection with the word “heal,” even though the group never used pink. In this case, the lawsuit continued until an agreement was reached that the event name could be used in connection with lung cancer events and that the group would not use pink ribbons. Many people's donations went to this trial rather than to finding a cure for breast cancer.
