Essay / Obamacare: The Future of Health Care - 841
My primary reason for supporting Obamacare is that there are now more consumer rights and patient protections. Before Obamacare, patients could receive benefits from insurance companies. If a child had an illness like asthma or diabetes, insurance companies would deny them. Under the new health care law, no American can be denied access by an insurance company because of illness or injury. Today, approximately 17.6 million American children have a pre-existing health condition. Now they can all be covered and many lives could be saved (“Health Care”). It's amazing that all Americans can now benefit from health care, but what's the point if we don't know how to use it? Many Americans are clueless when it comes to health care. Obamacare will change that. If a state applies for the new health care law, it can create offices to help consumers be better informed about health care. Health care is a wonderful thing to have for you and your family, but it will be useless if we don't understand it. Indeed, with the new law, insurance companies must put their information online allowing consumers to compare the prices of different companies side by side. Obamacare provides you with all the information you need to become better informed about health care (“Health Care Features”). Another feature of Obamacare is improving access to health care. If you are already insured, you can benefit from many new consumer benefits. If you are uninsured, you can enroll in Medicaid if you have low income. If you have a high income, you can get health insurance through an exchange at a better price than with a private insurance company (Tate 17-18). The primary goal of Obamacare is to insure uninsured Americans. In the year 2000, young adults obtained health insurance by staying on their parents' plans ("Health Care") Works Cited "Features of the Health Care Law". HHS.gov/HealthCare.
