  • Essay / The Pros and Cons of Welfare in America - 1259

The welfare of the American people is entrusted to the public administrators and political leaders of the United States. These public administrators and political leaders are elected to promote new bills and propose solutions that will be in the best interest of the public's welfare. When discussing the topic of social assistance, the first thought that comes to mind is giving money to disadvantaged and disadvantaged people to help them get out of a difficult financial situation and/or d 'temporary unemployment. Well-being among the middle and upper classes is not as common due to the fact that people receive financial support through their employment. There are several biased assumptions about the welfare program in America that leave the subject open for discussion. Like food stamps and how low-income Americans receive our tax dollars to feed their households. I am against the Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the cost it imposes on American taxpayers. Food stamps are used to purchase food at local grocery stores, supermarkets, or shelters that serve meals. The government provides participants with an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) that delivers benefits on a plastic card. The amount loaded on the card ultimately depends on the number of people in the household and the income you provide. Usually, people eligible for food stamps are low-income households. 76 percent of food stamp participant households include a senior citizen, child, or disabled person (U.S. Department of Agriculture). As I am now classified as an adult of the United States, I can put in my two cents when it comes to voting. I have been researching food stamps all semester and while ...... middle of paper ...... s around food stamp participants give away discounted products to participants and limit certain food brands to invest in with their social benefits. As I said earlier, I am against food stamps. I oppose it because it imposes a heavy toll on American taxpayers. We contribute to fraud, obesity rates and leave no incentive for people to work. The government makes food stamps very easy to access when the qualifications are so low. Even if the working poor receive “free” money for food, they still have no motivation to improve their lives and find a job. This question is close to my heart because, as a young adult, I pay taxes myself. I hope the government will also consider eliminating or reforming the nutritional supplement assistance program in a more effective way, which could potentially benefit not only the working poor, but also American taxpayers..
