Narrative EssayThe second semester of the Sergeants Major course covers many topics on organizations, leaders, power, influence, stress, ethics, vision, culture and climate . The knowledge gained from Block(s) L103, L105, L107 and L109 is important to future Operations Sergeant Majors because: We will be able to assist the Commander through the process of climate change and culture and enable the unit to become stronger as a team. Kotter ModelThe Kotter Model comes from Block L103, it is an eight-step model that helps avoid the mutual problems that plague even the slightest attempts at change in an organization. Organizational leaders will lead their organizations through this process to have a positive and lasting impact. A leader cannot cross an obstacle prematurely, bounce back, or make a serious mistake during a stage, as this would have a destructive effect on the success of the change. The steps in the Kotter model are: (1) establish a sense of urgency (2) create the guiding coalition (3) develop a vision and strategy (4) communicate the vision for change (5) enable a broad range of people to act (6) generate short-term gains (7) consolidate gains and produce even more change (8) institutionalize new approaches in culture. This model guides leaders through the process of attempting to change an organization's climate and culture; I will briefly explain each step. In the first stage, it is dynamic for the leader to establish a sense of purpose by showing the rewards and importance of change. Leaders of the second stage must organize and support the development of adjustment. As we think about visions, let us remember the Army's vision and how it has changed many times over the years and to support the change they have come up with slogans. A vision builder needs to make sure that if you use a slogan it should have meaning, don't use an empty one just for the sake of having one. Remember, a vision is a key used by leaders to successfully move their organization into the future. Conclusion In conclusion, I have given details about what I studied and what I learned during the second semester of the academy.
