We didn't grow up with my mother, so both parties would have to adjust to each other, and the things we planned didn't work out really unfolded the way they were supposed to unfold. It has now been four years since I last spoke to and saw my mother. My brother and I have to push ourselves and work hard to survive. It's hard for us to live alone because we don't have family or loved ones here in California. Despite all the trials and problems we face, I decided to return to school because I see it as a good opportunity for me to move forward in my life, and also for my future. I studied medical assisting and earned my associate's degree, while continuing my education to study nursing. I have currently been working as a medical assistant for over a year in Pittsburg. Working and going to school at the same time is really a big challenge for me. It's hard but what keeps me going is thanks to my family, especially my grandparents. They are my inspiration and I want to repay them for everything they have done to us since we were born. I know I'm still far from where I want to be, but I'm not the type of person who gives up
