William Shakespeare is best known for writing tragedies, comedies and novels, such as Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. Shakespeare generally wrote all of his plays about his personal life experiences. In 1585, Shakespeare began to take control of his own life and spread his work around the world. One of his most famous books, Merchant of Venice, describes how people lived in the 1500s and how people were treated. Jessica, Shylock's only daughter, is a perfect example of how people were treated when they rebelled against their own family. Although Jessica is not a main character, she is important because she shows how badly she was treated by her own father and how she took matters into her own hands. The Merchant of Venice has many different characters, for example the suitor, the fair lady and of course. the villain, who happens to be a Jew who lived in a Christian society named Shylock. The strange thing is that no Jews lived at that time. This makes the audience wonder if Shakespeare actually met a Jew, as this was not common at the time. 1500...
