Art encompasses many different forms, from painting, writing, drawing, dancing, and even music. It is a means of expression for the artist in his various forms. Music, in particular, allows the artist and the listener to become involved in the work and better understand what the musician wanted to tell. Music offers listeners an escape from their world and a world filled with melodies and emotions. There are many different genres and types of music and each can tell a story. Looking at the music videos of these artists, they also represent the feelings of the artists. Elements in videos are used specifically to create an emotional feeling and response. Music is capable of depicting different events and discussing controversial issues in a forum in which the artist can explicitly express their ideas. Immigration, particularly illegal immigration, is an issue that attracts a lot of attention in the media, but also in music. Many artists sing to express their thoughts on immigration and its impact on their lives. This article will examine differences in affective response to immigration in music and media. While both talk about the same topic, music is used to create a different response than mainstream media. The music represents a larger narrative about the representation of immigration. Song videos affect the way we think and feel about immigration. Why has Mexican migration become such a problem? The United States is a nation of immigrants, but as time passes, we are moving toward pervasive anti-immigrant sentiment.
