  • Essay / The importance of information and communication...

Education and technology have been integrated in recent years. There are many reasons why educators introduce technology into the learning process as the new generation of students have been surrounded by various technologies. Prensky (2005) states that young people are completely absorbed and mastered by digital technologies such as computers, video games and the Internet. Information and communication technologies (ICT) particularly play an important role in the education of young students. There are many technological methods, for example blogs, instant messaging podcasts and vodcasts that enable learners to collaborate, negotiate, contribute and create knowledge (Asmus et al. 2005). There is no doubt that ICT has many advantages and this article will present some advantages of its use in the educational process of young people. In particular, emphasis will be placed on the use of databases and the encouragement of independent learning and collaborative learning. Nowadays, ICT plays an effective role in the simple and effective use of databases, which could develop learning in universities. Over the past decade, the range of information has expanded and some of it has been digitized and stored on library websites. The University of Adelaide Library databases on the library website are excellent examples of technological information. According to the University of Adelaide (2010), these databases include various electronic data which represent approximately 25 million articles and journals on different topics. This data system allows learners to search in limited periods of time for a large amount of information, which will save researchers a lot of time and effort, which...... middle of paper.. .. ..many facilities and services for us and provide us with many benefits.
