    Dwight D. Eisenhower was the thirty-fourth president of the United States. He was born October 14, 1890 in Denison, Texas. He soon moved to Abilene, Kansas, the place where he grew up, when he was a year and a half old. Eisenhower was the third eldest of his parents' seven children. Eisenhower attended Abilene High School until he graduated in 1909. For the two years after his graduation, he worked in a creamery with his uncle and father to help pay the cost of his brother's schooling. . In 1911, he was admitted to the United States Military Academy at West Point. Throughout high school and college, Eisenhower enjoyed participating in various sports, but academically he was average. After graduating in 1915, he became a second lieutenant at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, where he met his wife, Mamie Doud. He began working at the Panama Canal as general manager under General Fox Conner. This general was the one who helped Eisenhower return to college at the Command and General Staff College, graduating at the top of his class.
