The Pool PartyEvery summer at Casa De Prado Condominiums, the owners complain about the pool. The biggest problem with the pool is that there is no structure to how it is maintained. Basic information about Indiana state laws regarding swimming pools confuses instructors. The simple fact that the pool is open and closed every day is a problem. Imagine a hot day and standing in front of the door, looking at the swimming pool that is not open. The cleanliness of the swimming pool has been improved. These issues affect Casa owners and their guests and are a constant headache for board members. There are possible solutions to these persistent problems. Solutions like paying current volunteers; establish a single pool manager; to send the keys to all residents. One solution is to pay pool supervisors who were previously volunteers, from the owner's fees to maintain and keep the pool open. It would be a combination of hired instructors and volunteers. This has worked in previous years. Casa De Prado Homeowners Association President Ron Watkins explained in an interview how the pool operated in the past (personal communication July 7, 2010). Watkins was unaware of Indiana state laws regarding swimming pools as well as standard sanitation practices when operating swimming pools. These could be helpful in clearing up any legal communication issues and health risks to pool users. This solution is the most logical. This is not a popular solution with the community due to the expense issue. However, that is what the funds are for. Homeowners pay home association fees for what the community needs. Having some structure would eliminate the “no responsibility” mindset that currently prevails.
