I am fortunate to say that while I was growing up, my parents instilled in me great qualities, including how to treat others and, essentially, what was considered good and evil. This is all an example of relativism. Relativism refers to multiple opinions while moral relativism claims that morality is not built around a conclusive model. This article will discuss three of the four points made in Lenn Goodman's article "The Good Society", published by Penn State University Press, regarding slavery, polygamy and incest; genocide, famine and bacteriological warfare; terrorism, hostage taking and child warriors. Goodman's article, "Some Moral Minima," discussed the equality of all in society and how everyone should enjoy a general atmosphere of safety from the cruel and unsympathetic actions of others. Goodman's perception was that we should not all so hastily form opinions on matters with which we are unfamiliar; rather, we should determine which incidents are not considered ethically correct. The fact remains that no one should pass judgment against another person based on their sexual preferences, disability, or any other trait beyond their control. Among these alarming figures, women and children are illegally traded into industries where they are overworked and severely underpaid.
