    Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo begins with a detective chasing a criminal across the rooftops of San Francisco. This detective named Scottie Ferguson finds himself hanging from the gutter of a building after slipping and falling. When one of his partners tries to rescue him, he falls and dies. He soon discovers his new fear of heights which leads him to leave the police force. Scottie is then contacted by a college friend, Gavin Elster, who wants to hire him to follow his wife who he believes is possessed by the spirit of her great-grandmother Carlotta who committed suicide at the age twenty-six, the same age as Elster. marries Madeleine. He eventually finds her at the Mckittrick Hotel in which he discovers that she has been spending time there under the name of her deceased great-grandmother, which we later find out is Carlotta's former home. He continues to follow Madeline and sees her throw herself into the San Francisco. Bay. After diving in and rescuing her, he takes her back to his apartment, undresses her and puts her to bed. She doesn't remember anything about this incident after waking up and they continue talking and begin to fall in love. Later in the film, Madeline confesses her love for Scottie and runs to the bell tower. His dizziness prevents him from chasing her to the top of the tower where he sees her body fall from the roof. The coroner accuses Scottie of letting his fear of heights cause the death of an innocent person, forcing him to spend the next year fairly isolated from the world. He later meets a woman, Judy, who he thinks resembles a brunette Madeline and he questions her about her identity. Her obsession with watching ...... middle of paper ...... this movie may seem small, but after realizing how many colors present throughout the movie, it's hard to miss them like Scottie's red door or Madeline's green car. Although normally Madeline is green in color, this is particularly eye-catching when Scottie is now the one wearing green in the apartment scene while Madeline, on the other hand, is wearing a red dress which is the color associated with all his fantasies. are just some of the big ones that one can easily recognize throughout the film. There are a lot of smaller things that one would probably only notice if they looked at it a few times. These elements include the neon green sign outside Judy's house, the green light on the door where Judy introduces herself as Madeline, the traffic light changing from green to red when Scottie leaves Midge's house for the last time..
