Essay / Unit 1 Ethics Assignment - 1408
As more and more "ethicists" in the medical establishment declare that ethics does not exist, on what basis does our medical community (our culture) will it make bioethical decisions in areas such as abortion, euthanasia, cloning, stem cell research, organ harvesting, end-of-life decisions, etc. ? If the so-called experts now reject deontological ethics (morality of duty) in favor of absolute moral relativism, which of this “fuzzy subjective feeling” will be the moral standard at the next meeting of the Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics? (Deontological Ethics, 2015). Ethics without consequences denies that the consequences of an action or rule are the only criteria for determining the morality of an action or rule. When applying this theory to healthcare decision-making, each situation may have a different model that may result in moral decisions being made on a case-by-case basis. Ethical Relativism Morality is relative to the norms of one's culture and actions can be considered right or wrong according to the accepted norms of the society in which they are performed. For example, slavery may be considered acceptable in one society and unacceptable in another. Legal rights differ from state to state and caregivers should be aware of cultural, religious and legal differences.
