Kelvin Silvester R. CalomardeLBYPH11 EB2Individual Lab ReportTitle: Graphs and EquationsIntroduction: The study of physics involves a lot of data to study obtained from experiments. Interpreting this data would be important to predict a certain phenomenon and explain why and how things work. A model for the data to be interpreted is to use graphs and equations. Stewart (2012) states that a graph of an equation in x and y is the set of all points (x, y) in the coordinate plane that satisfy the equation. This is vital in the study of physics or any important science because it serves as a tool to study the relationship between two variables and how one quantity varies with another. The shape of the graph also gives an idea of the relationship between the two quantities. Some common forms of graphs are a line graph, a hyperbolic graph, and a parabolic graph. As mentioned, the shape of the graph gives an indication of the relationship that exists. A straight line graph would mean that the quantities have a direct relationship with each other. This means that when one quantity is doubled, the other quantity is also doubled. A hyperbolic graph would mean that two values would have an inverse relationship in which as one value increases the other decreases. Finally, a parabolic graph for two quantities would mean that it represents a special type of linear relationship, with one increasing more than the other. Besides the graph, the equation of the data set is what dictates the shape of the graph. This is why it is important to know the equation of the data set. This is where linearization comes in, which is important for being able to know the equation of a curve line. ...... middle of paper ...... as the distance moves away in constant increments of x. This would show that electric charge is directly proportional to distance. The second graph would show a linearized version of the data where the distance x values are in the form 1/x^2 to create a line. With this the equation of the line can be obtained and with it the slope. Conclusion: As can be seen in the data part of the report, the values given for x and y can be interpreted as a graph. With this graph, it can be interpreted to describe the phenomenon that is occurring. This is how graphs and equations can help the study of science understand how and why things happen. pdf- Stewart, J., (2012) Stewart Algebra and Trigonometry. Singapore: Cengage Learning Asia Pte Ltd
