  • Essay / Summary of Dualism - 1874

Over time, humans have had many idols but the Transformative Vision speaks of three in particular. The first is Scientism: Legs of Iron which is compared to the statue of Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2. This statue was made of many materials like gold, silver, bronze, etc. Scientism has been something that humans throughout history have placed their trust in. It is no longer a question of disobedience to God but of ignorance and lack of knowledge. Second, Technicism: The Bronze of Power is once again compared to the statue of Nebuchadnezzar. Throughout history, technology has improved and humans have worked diligently to improve life on earth through scientific control of the environment. Science and technology have become something that takes the place of God and we have allowed them to be elevated to the status of idols. The third section of the statue (silver chest and arms) is compared to Technicism: Money for profit. It represents the second part of Technicism which is the profit towards which modern technology has turned. Finally, the golden head of the statue symbolizes economism. These 3 gods that we created have invaded our modern era. Humans have trusted in science, technology, and economics and placed these things in place of God. Even though sometimes this idol fails us, we worship it because it promised to make our lives better. Take for example the god of technicism who promised freedom and goods and who caused industrial pollution and the threat of nuclear power..
