This guidance from Polonius to Laertes will be difficult for many of Hamlet's key players to follow and will lead to their detriment. Shakespeare uses this advice as a continuing motif that foreshadows what will spread among the people. major players in Hamlet such as: Ophelia, Polonius, Rosencrantz, Guildenstern, Laertes and Hamlet Many of these characters bring about their own self-destruction by following the wishes of others and not being true to their own desires Ophelia is a character. of Hamlet who is chronically loyal to everyone except herself Ophelia is deeply in love with Hamlet and she is certain that he loves her too. This is clear from the claims she makes in defense of. Hamlet: “My lord, he has troubled me lovingly and honestly. And he gave substance to his speech, my lord, with almost all the holy wishes of heaven” (1795). Ophelia's downfall comes when she doubts her own feelings and beliefs about Hamlet, at the instruction and advice of her brother and father. By doing what her father advises and wishes, Ophélie is no longer capable of making decisions for herself.
