When Harry first meets Draco Malfoy in Madam Malkin's dress shop, he does not seem to like him because the way Malfoy acts makes Harry "strongly reminiscent of Dudley" (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 60; ch. Malfoy and Dudley can be classified as bullies. When Harry meets Malfoy for the second time, on the train to Hogwarts, Malfoy offers Harry his friendship, telling him that he should not hang out with "the wrong people" (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 81; ch. 6) . Harry is now convinced that he didn't want him as a friend, so he chose Ron.
