Essay / Harry Potter vs Voldemort Essay - 964 left side of your forehead? JK Rowling explores many different topics throughout the Harry Potter series. One of the main topics would be friendship. JK Rowling uses Harry Potter and Voldemort as complementary characters that show the extreme differences between two of the most talented wizards that ultimately lead one to victory through the power of friendship. At the beginning of the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, we learn about Harry's difficult childhood as a wizard in the Muggle world. He is portrayed as a foreigner. Harry can do strange things that he can't understand. This also applies to Voldemort. We learn more about his childhood in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The main difference is that once Harry is at Hogwarts, he makes friends. He has surrounded himself with what appear to be friendly witches and wizards. When Harry first meets Draco Malfoy in Madam Malkin's dress shop, he does not seem to like him because the way Malfoy acts makes Harry "strongly reminiscent of Dudley" (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 60; ch. Malfoy and Dudley can be classified as bullies. When Harry meets Malfoy for the second time, on the train to Hogwarts, Malfoy offers Harry his friendship, telling him that he should not hang out with "the wrong people" (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 81; ch. 6) . Harry is now convinced that he didn't want him as a friend, so he chose Ron. It's only towards the end of the book that Harry and Ron become closer to Hermione that fans call them the Gold... middle of paper ...... and the Deathly Hallows 391; ch. 20) but Harry corrects him and says, "He must have known you'd always want to come back." » (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 391; ch. 20). Voldemort will always be more powerful than Harry, even if he will never have the support and strength that Harry had from his friends. This is how Harry was able to defeat the Dark Lord. According to Voldemort, “There is nothing worse than death” (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 814; ch. 36). Dumbledore told him differently: “You are completely wrong. Indeed, your inability to understand that there are things far worse than death has always been your greatest weakness” (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 814; ch. 36). Friendship cannot exist without loyalty and there cannot be love without friendship. In this case, Voldemort could not understand any of these emotions or qualities..
