High school is the second stage of education that acts as a period of transition from childhood to young adulthood, self-discovery and In-depth growth as well as disappointment in this critical phase of a young person's life requires support and accompaniment for optimal success. I have absolute confidence in everyone's ability to exceed society's expectations, especially young adults. My passion for education as a solution to the obstacles many adolescents face is the basis of my desire to be an influential role model in the lives of high school students. I believe I have the necessary qualities to be part of the education family and achieve the goals of such a career. The role of high school counselors, simply put, is to advocate for students. Education A high school counselor is a professional profession that requires extensive education, training, and certifications to practice. To become a high school counselor in the state of Colorado, I must receive a K-12 school counselor license (American School Counselor Association [ASCA], 2014). Educationally, it is necessary to have at least a master's degree in school counseling, assuming a bachelor's degree has already been obtained (ASCA, 2014). I am earning my bachelor's degree in counseling psychology here at CMU and plan to attend graduate school in Colorado. Adam's State College, Argosy University in Denver, and Colorado State University all offer master's programs in counselor education or school counseling (ASCA, 2014). I will most likely attend CSU's graduate program due to its location and accreditation. Counseling requires a large amount of experience, including the following: ...... middle of paper ...... cumulative costs to become a school counselor will total approximately $45,000, including the following: 30,000 $ from my education at CMU and $15,000 from the graduate program I will be attending. With these numbers and my financial knowledge in mind, I believe it is possible for me to be a high school counselor. ASCA (2014) reported, “Secondary school counselors are professional educators with a mental health perspective who understand and respond to the challenges presented by today's diverse student population. High school counselors…are an integral part of the overall educational program. They provide proactive leadership…and services to help the student succeed in school” (para. 3). I am passionate about the fact that education is the key to success and I can't imagine a better career than advising students as they transition to adulthood..
