Essay / Common Core State Standards - 908
A United States citizen has the right to education. Every American goes through certain stages of their education, the first being kindergarten and then continuing through senior year. Throughout their education, Americans go through certain assessments at each grade level, and all with different assessments in subjects such as science, math, and language arts. However, over the past year, many schools in the United States of America have changed their national standards to a new standard known as the Common Core. Common Core is now a nationally standardized test with subjects like reading, writing and math. Some standards evident in the Common Core are "research and evidence-based, clear, understandable, and consistent, aligned with academic and professional expectations, grounded in rigorous content and application of knowledge through thinking skills graduate level, grounded in the strengths and lessons of current state standards, and informed by other top-performing countries to prepare all students for success in our global economy and society. (Read Standards, 2014). Over the past year, many states in the United States of America have moved from their own customized national standards to the nationwide Common Core Standard. This trend in education will change the way schools assess their students, the way students will learn, and the start of a new era of education. Common Core was designed to do many things, but one of the main reasons it was designed was to create a system for students and teachers so that teachers could teach their students the fundamental skills they will need in their academic and professional life. There are multiple ways to do an effective standard assessment, and one of the concepts is that of the range... middle of paper ... not meeting the requirements they needed to advance to the next level.
