  • Essay / Unwanted Children: Adoption and Foster Care in the United States

`Have you ever wondered what it means to be in or be part of the adoption process? Most people have different opinions about the whole system. Many think the process is simple and don't really know what most children go through. If more people understood the issues they face, child protection wouldn't be so difficult. Children come from broken or abusive homes where the treatment is horrible or to the point where they just remove the children. Social workers want more people to know about the situations they face, but at the same time, they are not allowed to publicize important cases. The problem with parents is that they don't even want to focus on the one they had so why adopt another one. Poverty is a global problem and does not only affect children. Social workers therefore need to ensure that when a child is removed from a bad home, they will not be placed back into poverty. It’s crazy how much racism exists even in something as small as adopting a child. Children are not adopted because of their race, which is not fair. The child is raised by the people around him and this affects the way they act and more. We shouldn't choose a child by color, it should be chosen based on that adult's level of responsibility to care for them. Child welfare has become a very important epidemic for American social workers. These people take the problem more seriously and try to clarify the main situations they face, namely racial prejudice, kinship recruitment and poverty. There are so many issues in the world of child protection that many are unaware of; the first concerns racial prejudice against children. Children of any color other than white face a very difficult time when it comes to being adopted. This is... middle of paper....... It just doesn't seem fair enough to me for their lives to be ruined for no reason. They stay there day after day and either they are removed from a foster home due to poverty and their parents can't afford to pay them, or the foster home has no parents scheduled for them, or they are in a foster home but are just not wanted because of the way they look.
