    Bob Dylan once said, “No one is free, even the birds are chained to the sky. » The lack of freedom in George Orwell's 1984 is directly related to this quote, as it depicts a dystopian. a world where there is no freedom and citizens are constantly brainwashed by technology, leaving them unsure of their own rights and beliefs. In our world today, the same problem arises when it comes to the media and the power the government and NSA have to invade people's privacy and thoughts through them. George Orwell's 1984 is a chilling warning of an emerging totalitarian society, a world dangerously close to our own, perhaps nowhere closer than in the role the media plays in manipulating what we believe, even regarding the level of confidentiality we achieve. We can understand that the Orwellian dystopia of 1984 is profoundly removed from our own understanding of reality. However, with the surveillance state becoming more and more pervasive in our society, parallels are beginning to emerge between Orwell's fictionalized society and our all-too-real one.
