  • Essay / Propaganda - 825

We must remember that in war, what is said on the enemy's side of the front is always propaganda, and what is said on our side of the front is truth and righteousness , the cause of humanity and a crusade for peace. Propaganda has been a part of the United States since the start of the war; to when we fought in World War II, Vietnam, and how that affected our present day. The media often claims that their goal is to provide an unbiased view of current events. This is almost impossible to achieve because each text takes one angle or another on an issue. Propaganda is a powerful weapon in war, it is used to dehumanize and create hatred towards a perceived enemy, internal or external, by creating a false image in the world. spirit. Throughout United States history, many goals have dominated the method of propaganda used throughout the Vietnam War. The war had to be seen as a threat to national security, which was relatively difficult due to the distance between the United States and Vietnam. Public support had to be sustained. Which was difficult not only because of the distance, but also because the American way of life was largely uninterrupted by the conflict. Our goals had to be clearly defined, because the South Vietnamese regime that America defended was contradictory to some of our fundamental ideals. Additionally, some people misinterpreted our actions as imperialistic. Promoting trust in government. Trust in the government was low due to the secrecy that surrounded the intervention from the start. Vietnam had begun as a distant, undeclared war about which the American public was never informed. The death of civilians in a coup against President Di... middle of paper ...... a king on an engine encourages American citizens to work harder so that the military has more material, showing that even normal citizens can participate in war even if they weren't fighting. Another good example is this next poster, “Production” (I need to find this photo). “Production” shows what the American attitude was and why we were fighting to win the war. This poster is bold and shows that if the people of the United States lend a strong hand, they will win the war. Most posters like this were successful around this time because fighting wasn't everyone's cup of tea, giving people a chance to help in more subtle ways. “We become slaves the moment we completely hand over the keys to defining reality to someone else, whether it is a company, an economic theory, a political party , the White House, Newsworld or CNN.”
