The book “The Gift of the Magi” is about sacrifice, about giving up something that is precious to oneself. Christmas was approaching and Della Dillingham-Young was determined to acquire the most magnificent gift she could ever give to her husband, Jim. She got to work arguing with the salesmen over prices and cutting her hair, while Jim had finally sold his watch for his beloved Della. Della originally planned to work for months to get this watch. perfect gift but, being in poverty, she argued with: the grocer, the farmer and the butcher. Convince them to lower prices because what they were selling was too expensive for her to afford. When they lowered the prices Della was full of embarrassment and started to blush being a woman who asked for the prices to be lowered she was afraid they would think she was cheap and just didn't want to spend her money. Only to end up saving just a dollar a year...
