  • Essay / The new Boeing 787 - 933

The new Boeing 787 is the first completely new airliner built by the company in many years. As with any new product, great technological advances have been made. I will discuss these advancements, potential customers, sales, competition and much more. Three variants are currently under development, the 787-3, 787-8 and 787-9. Each has a different scope, size and passenger capacity. The 787-3 will carry 290 to 330 passengers approximately 2,500 to 3,000 NMI (nautical miles), the 787-8 is expected to carry 224 with a maximum of 375 approximately 7,600 to 8,200 NMI and finally the 787-9 will carry 250 to 290 passengers. passengers approximately 8,000 to 8,500 NMI. With these different passenger and distance ranges, the 787 is likely to replace the Boeing 767 and, to some extent, the Boeing 757. As for competitors, the Airbus A350 series is the most likely. The 787-10 we are talking about would likely be a larger aircraft and would compete with the Airbus A330 and A340. The market for this aircraft is very large and diverse. The three different variants will serve on a range of routes. The 787-3 is likely to fly regional routes such as New York to Denver and Asian routes that would be served with higher density seating capacity. The big advantage of this model is its lighter MTOW (Maximum Take Off Weight). Airports charge landing fees based on MTOW and lighter planes mean less money to operate. The other two variants, the 787-8 and -9 models, have a higher MTOW but also have a much longer range. The -8 model can go from New York to Paris and the -9 model would likely be on even longer routes like Moscow to São Paulo. With all these models, the 787 will capture a large part of the domestic and international markets in the United States, because...... middle of paper ...... uh, 2010 is not the initial delivery date . There was a lot of delay in the development of this brand new aircraft. Delivery was initially scheduled for the end of 2008 to ANA. However, a series of delays pushed back this deadline, with deliveries now scheduled for late 2010. These delays included problems with the wing fuselage joint as well as big problems with their supply chain. This problem prompted Boeing to purchase several suppliers to help resolve these issues. I think the 787 will change the world of air travel. As an airline pilot, I think the improvements over older aircraft are significant. The 787 looks and sounds like a plane I hope to fly one day and would at least like to ride. This will be a game changer for all manufacturers. I can't wait to see what Airbus has to combat the marvelous 787.
