Elizabeth Cady StantonElizabeth Cady Stanton didn't want to be remembered for her home, but for the women she admired. The purpose of this article is to explain the life of Elizabeth Stanton and how she had a huge impact on the outcome of the search for equal rights for women. Early Childhood First of all, the most famous influential feminist leader was known when she was a child. Elizabeth was born on November 12, 1815 in Johnstown, New York (Biography of Elizabeth Cady Stanton). His father was a judge and his mother was a housewife; At this time, women were considered 2nd class citizens and had few rights (Salisbury). Elizabeth's wealthy parents hired Scottish nurses and slave Peter Teabout to care for the girls; the Cady sisters loved Teaabout because they had fun and played with toys when they didn't mean it too (Salisbury). She was the 7th child of 11 children, but only 6 survived due to illnesses like scarlet fever, mumps and diphtheria (Salisbury). When she went to the hospital to see her new little sister, Elizabeth realized a stranger was saying to her, "What a shame it's a girl!" (Salisbury). Elizabeth and her sisters loved Christmas, July 4th also outdoors, they even cited “we had snow with which to build statues and make forts…” (Salisbury). When she was twelve, the Emancipation Proclamation was passed and the slaves were free, although Teabout was happy to stay with Elizabeth because he was her happiest childhood (Salisbury). She went to Johnstown Academy and took advanced math and language classes; also graduated as the only girl from Johnstown Academy. In 1830 she found someone to look up to, her name was Emma Hart Willards for helping other women educate themselves as men. reason why even though people didn't listen to the woman in the early 1800s, she never gave up; and it takes dedication to fight for what you believe in. She will forever be remembered in American history as the woman who sought equality and led it to success, including with her best friend Susan B. Anthony.
