Despite the fact that marijuana is banned in many countries, it is the most widely used drug in the world. It has users from all walks of life, young and old, men and women. This raised the question of whether it should be legalized. Critics claim that marijuana causes many bodily harms to the user, and can even cause death. What these critiques fail to explain is why other, more harmful drugs like tobacco and alcohol have been legalized despite their destructive nature. In reality, the reason why many people continue to use marijuana is because of its benefits to the human body, these benefits are so numerous. Marijuana helps the body in several ways; These are tested and proven medicinal purposes. Many medical experts have conducted extensive tests to determine the effects of marijuana on humans. In most cases the results have been positive; positive in that they support marijuana use; This is because they find that the drug has more benefits than harms to the human body. These benefits include: relief from joint pain, to cure certain illnesses, marijuana can help boost the global economy, responsible use of marijuana over time helps overcome certain medical conditions, which is why it is qualified of natural medicine. These are just some of the reasons why marijuana should be legalized (David, 2012, p. 25). Marijuana is an essential drug in the treatment of certain diseases. In the article titled Cannabinoids in Clinical Practice, Williamson explains how marijuana is used by doctors to cure certain diseases; He states that the drug is vital in the treatment of multiple sclerosis, a disease that causes muscle pain; small doses of cannabis are given to relieve tremors. Let's look at it this way: how many people have we seen die from marijuana use and how many people have we seen die from other legal drugs like tobacco and alcohol. It is evident that most people died in the latter case rather than the former, which clearly indicates that cannabis is less harmful than some of the already legal drugs. Marijuana should therefore be legalized on the grounds that other, more harmful drugs are legal. All the above facts and statements support the claim that cannabis should be legalized for its economic and medicinal values, mitigating its harmful attributes, therefore it is more beneficial than harmful. The fact that some countries and states in the United States have legalized marijuana means that many people are beginning to accept the use of marijuana. Marijuana should therefore be legalized (Kleiman, M. 2012 pp. 78).
